Dear Parents/Carers

Re:  Key Worker Survey

The Government announced yesterday that schools will be closed with effect from Monday (23 March) to the vast majority of pupils; the last school session will therefore be this Friday (20 March).  This action has been taken to limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and protect the whole community.

However, schools are being asked to maintain a basic on-site provision for the most vulnerable children in society and for the children of emergency/key workers who would not be in a position to continue working if their children were not in school, taking into account the roles and context of both parents.

This provision, as we understand it, is optional – in some circumstances parents/carers may consider that their children are old enough and safe to be at home.

The Cabinet Office stated that further information would be published today, including a full list of key worker categories.  However, at the time of writing this letter to you this afternoon, this information has not been published to schools.

We are anticipating that emergency/key workers will be those with essential roles in the Police, Fire Service, Health Service and teachers etc; delivery drivers of vital items may also be included this group.  However, kindly note that we will need to respond to Government’s expectations when they are confirmed.

If, in accordance with the criteria above, you believe that you are an emergency/key worker who would not be in a position to continue working if your child was not at school, we would be grateful if you would reply to this brief survey by 9am on 20th March 2020.
