As part of Portsmouth City Council's 'Aspiring Portsmouth' week we have been delighted to welcome a range of guest presenters who visited our Year 8 and Year 10 Personal Development Learning lessons. The aim of the week is to inspire children, young people and adults to think about their futures, help them to understand the steps they can take to ensure their own success and aid them in reaching their goals. Fifty Year 8 pupils also enjoyed the 'Get Inspired' event at Portsmouth Guildhall on Wednesday 22nd January 2020. Amongst the guests we gladly received Simon Collyer, the founder of the Association of Pension and Benefits Claimants CIC (called ABC for short) spoke about human potential and shared a range of ideas on how young people can plan and think about their futures, overcome life's challenges and succeed. British Americas Cup Team INEO's lead by Sir Ben Ainslie kindly donated posters for the pupils (see below). Simon commented "I hope that I can go on and do more talks in schools. I jumped at the chance to help these school children and I very proud to have been asked to take part". Grant Copper, is a franchisee of twenty-three McDonald's restaurants in the southern region and ran two interactive and informative sessions to four Year 10 groups who all benefited from his experience and expertise. They all came out of the sessions with a clear understanding of what 'aspire' means. Thank you to all of our guest presenters for taking the time to visit us this week.
