Year 10 students explored Further Education on Friday, 21 June when they attended a taster day at City of Portsmouth College. They travelled independently to their chosen site. One group went to North Harbour campus to undertake activities relating to bricklaying, plastering, carpentry and plumbing and gas. Mr Faulkner, Pastoral Manager for Year 10 commented that all students were respectful throughout, engaged with the sessions and took responsibility for themselves. A second group went to the Highbury campus and participated in sessions such as beauty, catering, education and childcare, engineering and automotive. Ms Burden, Lead for Aspiration and Enterprise thought that the pizza made by the catering students smelled particularly good and was pleased with the engagement and good humour shown. The final group chose to explore a wide range of A Level subjects at the Sixth Form Campus, where Miss Hawkins, Head of Achievement for Year 10 was similarly proud of the interest and engagement of Springfield students. Overall, whether the day has inspired pupils to opt for a particular college and course, or conversely has made them realise another path would suit them better, we hope the day was useful for all Year 10 students.
