We have been asked to share this information from British Rowing Organisation, they are looking for young athletes:
"I am writing to you to let you know about a series of events that will be running at rowing clubs along the South Coast over the Easter holidays. We are looking to find young athletes who have what it takes to potentially make it into the GB Rowing Team racing at the World Championships and Olympic Games.
These events will be free of charge, last around an hour, and allow your students to come down to a club and experience the sport first hand. They will involve assessments to measure their physical attributes and strength, as well as a short taster session on the water or on the rowing machine.
Height brings a big advantage in rowing, so ideally girls should be at least 176cm (5’9”) and boys at least 188cm (6’2”) tall. This will generally mean that we are looking for students in Years 9 to 11. I stress that no prior rowing experience is necessary. We are looking for athletes who may currently be playing a different sport, such as rugby, netball, volleyball, basketball or swimming, but who have the right build and physicality to succeed at rowing.
The details of the events are as follows:
- Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club (PO37 6BG): Saturday 1stApril, 10am-1pm
- Lymington Amateur Rowing Club (SO41 9PY): Wednesday 5thand Thursday 6th April, 11:30am-2:30pm
- Southsea Rowing Club (PO5 3HE): Monday 10thApril, 10am-1pm
- Christchurch Rowing Club (BH23 1HU): Saturday 15thApril, 10am-1pm
- Southampton Coalporters Amateur Rowing Club (SO19 7BU): date and time TBC
